~ About The Book ~

A humorous and magical re-telling of Cinderella from a unique perspective.
Burndee is a young and cantankerous fairy godfather, who would rather bake cakes than help humans. A disgrace to the fairy order, Burndee has only two wards entrusted to his care…a cinder girl and a charming prince.
A royal ball presents Burndee with the brilliant solution of how to make his wards happy with the least amount of effort. He’ll arrange a meeting and hope the two fall in love.

~ My Review ~

I am not a huge fan of fairy-tale retellings. Just never have been introduced to a book that sounded interesting to me. But this one takes the cake! (pun intended, though you would have to read the book.) This is such a delightful, adorable, warm and fuzzy story! I was literally overcome with laughter on several occasions. The characters are absolutely the best and the story telling so humorous and enjoyable that you will want to read it again and again. This book would make an awesome family read aloud.
Burndee, the godfather has this magical sense of sarcasm that had me in stitches! Ella was adorable and cuddly and I just wanted to scoop her into a hug. And the prince! I just laughed so hard and couldn’t help but have warm and fuzzy feelings at the end! A must read!

~ Interview ~

~ 1 ~  V:What first triggered the idea for The Reluctant Godfather?
A:”Nothing in particular.  I had just returned from a vacation and my mind was fresh and relaxed, and suddenly the whole idea popped into my head – voila – even the dialogue for the end confrontation.  All I had to do was write it down.”
~ 2 ~ V:Who is your favorite character besides Burndee?
A:”That is a tough one!   I would have to say Ella – I like characters that are more than what they first appear to be – especially characters that everyone perceives as stupid.  I was happy with how layered Ella is – she doesn’t have a lot of common sense, but she has wisdom.  She is kind of slow and yet quick to notice other things.   Plus she is sweet – it’s hard not to love her.”
~ 3 ~ V:Who was the most fun to write?
A:“Burndee, Burndee, Burndee – those cold, obnoxious characters with a heart of gold come pretty easily to me and crop up in just about every story – they are always fighting for a place in my works in progress.  So yep – definitely Burndee; his sarcasm and his thick-headedness was great fun to write.”
~ 4 ~V: What was the hardest part of the story to write?
A:”I honestly don’t remember any part being exceptionally difficult—perhaps the ‘blocking’.  I can struggle with ‘blocking out’ a scene in my head—all of that—he went here, she was standing by the kitchen wall on the south side of the building.  So—‘laughs’—sorry, that’s the only thing I can think of!  This story was unusually easy for me.”
~ 5 ~ V: How long did it take you to write TRG?
A:”Working at it off and on, finished the draft in three weeks.”
~ 6 ~ V: What is something you hope your readers take away from the book?
A: ”I would like readers to walk away happy  and contented from something that they hopefully find sweet and satisfying.
Also, I would like to relate to readers how important it is to be ‘in your place’.  To be where you are meant to be, working at the gifts that you have, to the best of your ability.  So many people—even Christians—are in the totally wrong place because they won’t listen to those around them, in the same way that Burndee wouldn’t listen to Fey and Ella.  So I hope that this little nugget touches some people.   Instead of wanting other gifts, or trying to be something that we aren’t, or going down a road that we’re not supposed to be on—it’s vitally important that we regularly evaluate where we are and whether or not we are firmly on the road of God’s will living in the countless possibilities of our fullest potential.”
