creator
What no one ever tells you about following your dreams.
When it comes to being a creator, specifically in my case, building businesses from the ground up. . . there is so much no one tells you. All the how-to posts, the “get rich quick” mentality, the excitement and the hype. Some people look at the Instagram, Youtube and Facebook creators and think they have it made. That they got rich quick and found the answer to success. And there’s a part of us that really wants to see that dream come true for ourselves.
Following your dreams takes guts. It takes sacrifice. A boldness and a passion that cannot be quenched. It is not for the faint of heart or those who wish to earn a living quickly. It takes a willingness to realize the worst thing of all, that your dream may actually fail or never fully pan out into its potential.
Possibly most importantly, it takes time. We tend to think that these creators made it big overnight, and while there may have been a few, that isn’t the case for most. Some have been at our dream for years, slaving away while working another job, falling into bed after midnight every night, running on coffee fumes and prayers, only to see minor success. Or none at all. Whether it be lack of knowledge to really succeed, or just an absence of true fans and customers, things have taken us a long time.
The old adage that slow and steady wins the race can be totally applied here. If you don’t do anything else but constantly plug away at that dream in your field of excellence, you already are a success. Even if the money or the numbers aren’t there.
Most importantly, following your dreams takes a profound knowledge and trust in the fact that this is your calling. Do whatever you want, but if you don’t know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is where God has you right now, even if it is in the middle between starting and success (aka me), even if it is at the beginning when you feel overwhelmed by what needs to be done. Even if you are basking in the success of the work of your hands and the blessing of the Lord. If you don’t know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are where God wants you, then what is the point?
If you have that figured out, that will take away some of the sting of disappointment, if not all of it as you realize, that no matter where you are in this journey, it is where God wants you.
If you have a dream in your heart to be a creator of some sort, a videographer, youtuber, teacher, author. . . the list goes on and on, then pray about. The best dreams in the world are birthed in prayer. Know in your heart that this is where God wants you. Then, put in your time and know that even in the hard process of this journey, it’s not about where you are going, it’s about what God can teach you in this journey.
