This book was super enjoyable!
I knew when it was going to be about Kekoa that it would possibly be my favorite, but I have to say, I liked it even better than the first one! There was just so much to love in these characters and I personally found a lot more to relate to them than the MC’s from the first book.
I love Brynn and Jack, don’t get me wrong, but Kekoa and Elinor just hit different.
These characters were going through their own grief and pain, all while trying to stop a nuclear snafu. Go figure.
The nerdy aspect of this book was so well done. The science was not only believable, but super interesting surrounding codes, code breaking, computer programming and scientific intelligence from a government’s perspective as well as on the global scale.
I truly love the SNAP agency. These characters are friends who are more like family and it shows. Walters doesn’t just show the beneficial aspects of that either, she takes you into the raw and gritty and hard and sometimes hurtful aspects of close relationships and pulls on your emotions in a way that reminds you how real it is.
I was also pleased by a sweet, clean and enjoyable romance without all the extra sensual garbage that seems to be slipping into books these days. I loved how their relationship was real and filled with attraction, but how it was also healthier in the aspect that it showed characters falling in love with personalities as well as physical attractions.
Because these personalities are hard not to love!
Something that I found enjoyable about this book is that it was filled with the quiet, personality and character developing moments without being a ‘fight off death on every single page” adventure. I appreciated the suspense and thriller aspects being broken up by slice of life moments that hit the heart.
Content for my clean readers: Some violence, including an attack, assault and gunshot wounds, deaths, and implied deaths. While startling, the deaths in the book were not overtly gory and were handled tastefully. Super clean in the romantic aspect.
If you are a spy thriller reader who enjoys some sweet romance, relatable characters and a character focused plot, then this book is for you!
