I’ll just start off by saying this book was a mix of several of my favorite movies. It felt like a Master and Commander, meets Sherlock Holmes, meets Amazing Grace. Whew! What a ride.
I was at first intimidated at the size of the book itself. It felt large and I have been struggling through a reading slump of late so was surprised to find that not only was it easy to get into, but the ease of reading and the suspenseful tale kept me turning page after page. The day that I finished it, I read over a third of the book because I couldn’t put it down or stop!
This book hit all of the right notes on the piano and kept playing long after I thought it was going to wrap up. It was just the best cozy book as we go into fall and I honestly loved it so much! This author nailed it and I cannot even begin to describe how much I love it. It is one of my favorite books of the year and definitely in the top two! Highly recommend it! It was just the perfect mix of old history, beautiful descriptions, dynamic personalities and swiftly paced mystery and suspense. It reminded me of Dickens, Doyle, and so many other old time writers who made a mark for themselves in the fiction world. IT had so many aspects of both in the writing and I absolutely adored it!
