Writing Prompt 021

I knew she was the one the instant she caught me staring.

We were at church and she was talking to a grey haired gentleman and his wife. The lovely echo like sounds of a large room full of people, buzzed pleasantly in my ear. She glanced my way and caught my eyes, then gave me a soft smile and turned back to her conversation. I still stared like a fool as the couple moved on and she took her seat in the pew beside her mother and focused on the preacher who spoke.

She glanced my way again and did an almost imperceptible double take without moving her head. We gazed into each other’s eyes for what seemed like a long time, but was really only five seconds. In those five seconds, she looked at me with a slightly wide eyed, surprised expression, then cocked an eyebrow ever so slightly as if she were curious. With a shy smile touching her rosy lips, she ducked her head and looked into her lap with a sweet modest gesture before bringing her gaze back up to the minister. She didn’t look at me again the whole service, but I couldn’t seem to keep my eyes off her.

This picture is just so beautiful. I actually wrote this little prompt a while ago. It popped into my head much like a movie scene and I couldn’t help but turn on my light, snatch a pen and paper and put the little scene to words. Why is it that awesome ideas pop into your head late at night when you should be sleeping not frantically scribbling away on a piece of paper? I later found the picture and instantly thought of that scene. They seemed to fit perfectly!

Let me know what you thought in the comments below! Do you ever have late night inspirations that are begging to be written out?

By God’s Grace,
